The objective of the SBHASA Bursary Program is to provide financial assistance to individuals with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus wishing to further their education.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  1. The Applicant must be a resident of Southern Alberta (south of Highway 11) with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus; or a member of the SBHASA whose disability is/was treated through the Myelomeningocele Clinic at Alberta Children's Hospital.
  2. The Applicant must be accepted into a recognized program at an accredited post secondary institution in Canada. The definition of post secondary shall include universities, technical or trade schools, career institutions, or schools of business.

Bursary Coverage:

  1. The maximum amount of any bursary shall be $750.00 per calendar year.
  2. Any shortfall between bursary paid out and investment income on the bursary fund capital shall be made up by the current year contribution.
  3. The value of the Capital Bursary Account will be set by the SBHASA Executive and can be increased at any time by the Executive. Decreases in the value of the Capital Bursary Account can only be made with the approval of a majority vote at the Annual General Meeting.
  4. Applicants will be limited to receiving one bursary in a calendar year.

Approval Process:

Applications will be reviewed by the SBHASA Executive Committee and notification of their decision will be made to the Applicant. Funds will be distributed upon confirmation of the Applicant's enrolment.
